Behaviour Support Services in Ontario
Evidence-based, compassionate behaviour support delivered by qualified Behaviour Technicians and Therapists — working collaboratively with care teams, families, and organizations to improve quality of life and reduce challenging behaviours.
What Behaviour Support Means
Behaviour support is a specialized area of care that helps individuals whose behaviour may present challenges to themselves, those around them, or their ability to participate fully in daily life. This may include individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), intellectual disabilities, acquired brain injuries, or other conditions that affect communication and self-regulation.
Effective behaviour support is not about punishment or suppression — it's about understanding the root causes of behaviours, building communication and coping skills, and creating environments and interactions that set the individual up for success. It is always delivered with respect and a genuine commitment to the person's well-being.
SFCS places trained Behaviour Technicians and Behaviour Therapists who work within established behaviour support plans under appropriate supervisory frameworks, including plans developed by Board-Certified Behaviour Analysts (BCBAs) or other qualified professionals.
Our Approach to Behaviour Support
Proactive, Not Reactive
Our professionals focus on preventing challenging behaviours through environmental modifications, skill-building, and consistent, positive interactions — not simply managing crises after the fact.
Evidence-Based Practice
We draw on established behavioural science principles and evidence-based frameworks including Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), and trauma-informed practices.
Collaborative Delivery
Our behaviour support professionals work as part of the broader care team — communicating clearly with families, supervisors, and other practitioners to ensure consistency and continuity of support.
How Our Professionals Help
Behaviour Support Plan Implementation
Working from plans developed by qualified supervisors, our technicians implement targeted strategies consistently and document progress carefully.
Communication Skills Development
Many challenging behaviours are rooted in communication difficulties. Our professionals support individuals in building functional communication skills through AAC, PECS, sign language, and verbal practice.
Crisis Prevention & De-escalation
Our professionals are trained in recognized de-escalation techniques and crisis prevention approaches, helping to maintain safety while preserving dignity.
Data Collection & Reporting
Accurate data collection is essential to effective behaviour support. Our technicians track behaviour frequencies, antecedents, consequences, and progress toward goals, supporting supervision and plan adjustments.
